On Saturday, 26th July 2025, a thrilling debate competition took place between the Interact Club and the Debate and Writers Club. The motion was:
”Resolution: This House believes that compulsory voting would improve democratic participation.”
The Debate Club, led by experienced S.2 debaters, emerged victorious. Their recent participation in high-level competitions gave them an edge. Meanwhile, the Interact Club, represented by an S.5 team, put up a strong fight but fell short due to limited debate experience.
The Interact Club argued passionately in favor of compulsory voting. However ,the Debate Club countered effectively. Their well-researched points and confident delivery secured their win.
Interact Club’s Valiant Effort
Mr. Ampeire Nixon, the Interact Club patron, praised his team’s effort. He said:
“Interact club tried their level best, and the Lion was almost falling down, but it was all in vain. Congratulations Mr. Opio Geofrey upon winning me, but I promise to come back stronger next time.”
Despite the loss, the Interact Club showed determination. Their teamwork and enthusiasm were commendable. With more training, they could become strong contenders in future debates.
Debate Club’s Experience Made the Difference
The Debate Club’s victory was no surprise. Their team has competed in:
Battle of Minds (Iganga)
UNSA Debates (Tororo)
Elgon Regionals (Mbale)
This experience helped them structure arguments better and respond to opponents effectively. Their confidence and clear reasoning impressed the judges.
What’s Next for Both Clubs?
The Interact Club has vowed to improve. They plan to study debate tactics and practice more. Their goal is to return stronger in the next competition.Meanwhile, the Debate Club continues to hone their skills. With upcoming tournaments, they aim to maintain their winning streak.
