S.4 Candidates Facilitations Term 2

S.4 Facilitations

BY BUKAWA ZAINABU HABIBAH

The season of MOCK exams is here.Schools across Uganda are preparing candidates for the big moment—the UNEB examinations. At Rubongi Army Secondary School (RASS), the pressure is on. Prep after prep, facilitation after facilitation—all aimed at helping students succeed and boosting the school’s image.

What Are MOCK Exams?

MOCK exams are trial exams given to Senior Four and Senior Six candidates before they sit for the national UNEB examinations. The term “MOCK” comes from the idea of mocking or imitating the UNEB format. These exams are designed to simulate the same structure and question approach used in the national exams.

They give candidates a real feel of what to expect in October and November. This makes MOCKs a key part of the revision process. Schools use different MOCK sets, but WAKISSHA and UMTA are the most commonly used papers across the country. At RASS, the MOCK timetable is already out, and the countdown has begun.

A Golden Chance for the 2025 Senior Four Candidates

This year’s Senior Four candidates are the second group to sit for MOCK exams under the new curriculum. The 2025 group is lucky. They have access to 2024 MOCK past papers. These give them an early advantage—they can study the format, style, and type of questions expected.

With this exposure, students get a clear picture of what to revise. Teachers also use these past papers during class discussions and preps. The aim is to boost student confidence and performance when the real exam comes.

Subject Facilitations Are Key

In preparation for the MOCKs, schools are organizing subject facilitations. These are special sessions where experts or teachers guide students on how to tackle specific questions. Facilitations also offer time for revision of hard topics and for clearing student doubts.

These sessions are organized for both Senior Four and Senior Six candidates. They are focused, intense, and often very interactive. From Mathematics to History, and now Physics, every subject is being covered. The goal is to leave no candidate behind.

Students Share Their Experience

On 15th July 2025, RASS students attended a Physics facilitation. The feedback from candidates gives a glimpse into their experience. One Senior Four student said:

“During the morning hours, before lunch, the facilitation is understandable because of the fresh minds and the cool morning breeze. Compared to the hot afternoon that feels like we are being cooked alive in the main hall—especially after lunch—it can be unbearable, let alone uncomfortable.”

Despite the heat, students are committed to staying focused. Another student added:

“The facilitator asks tricky questions that need critical thinking—but we shall make it.”

This determination reflects the spirit of candidates all over Uganda. The journey may be tough, but they are ready to push through.

Preparing for Success

As MOCKs draw nearer, both students and teachers are working together. Teachers are revising lessons, conducting prep sessions, and giving tips. Students are doing their part too—reading hard, discussing past papers, and attending every facilitation.

All this is part of the big picture: preparing for UNEB and building a bright future. With enough effort, guidance, and practice, success is within reach.
