RASS Girls Rugby 7s Returns to Nationals: A Tough Start, But Spirits High

Rubongi Army SS Tororo kicked off their second appearance at the USSSA Ball Games II Nationals 2025 Girls Rugby 7s with high hopes and determination. Representing the host Bukedi Region, the girls took to the field at Elgon View Sports Ground with energy and pride, but faced a tough opening day.

In their first match, Rubongi Army battled against PMM Girls School Jinja but fell 26-0, with PMM capitalizing on defensive gaps. Later in the day, they faced Kitgum Comprehensive and again came up short, losing 17-0. Despite the setbacks, the team showed glimpses of promise and resilience.

As a relatively new team to the national stage, this is only Rubongi Army’s second time competing at this level—a sign of steady progress for the Tororo-based school. Their participation alone reflects the growing impact of girls’ rugby in the region, thanks in part to the efforts of the Tororo Rugby Community led by Mr. Timothy Byarugaba.

A big challenge awaits as Rubongi Army SS faces defending champions Nkoma SS on Monday, 12 July at 11:40 AM. Adding a twist to the matchup, they’ll go head-to-head with Anirwoth Sunday Flora, a former Rubongi Army student now playing for Nkoma.

Win or lose, Rubongi Army’s journey is one of growth, passion, and persistence—and they’re not done yet.
