On a mild Friday afternoon, Rubongi Army Secondary School ( RASS ) temporarily halted lessons in order to have a fire Sensitization session. The session was led by Regional Fire Officers who didn’t only talk about fire and fire extinguishers but also other safety precautions.
The school administration and staff were in attend together with all the students from the different classes. The opening remarks were made by Mr Muhwezi Brain, the O Level Director of Studies ( DOS ) who in turn invited the next speakers to kick off with the session.
What was said at the Fire Sensitization Session
The Fire Officers informed the gathering of the necessary steps to be taken Incase of a fire outbreak. For instance looking for a way out of the building as opposed to hiding in a given corner. This should be prioritized even if the way out is already on fire. It’s better to have a few wounds and scars than risking life staying in a building which has caught fire.
In addition, the Officers also warned learners against accepting gifts from strangers. This is because there have been a number of students abducted and kidnapped through such measures. They also talked steps learnrs should take Incase of Snake bites.
The session was closed with a practical where fire was lighted and extinguished by the Officers and some of the students. With this information shared, the learners and staff were left equipped ready to combat such a scenario Incase it occurs. Which we hope doesn’t .
