On Friday, 08 November 2024, various schools across the country conducted the second-last briefing for Senior Six candidates under the old curriculum. It should be noted that by 2025, the incoming Senior Five class will begin with a new A Level curriculum.
This means the current Senior Six candidates are the second-last group studying under the old curriculum, while the current Senior Five students will be the final group in November 2025. Although the change in the A Level curriculum may seem drastic, it has been in development ever since the introduction of the competence-based curriculum for lower secondary school.
A Look at the Briefing Day for Senior Six Candidates at Rubongi Army SS
At Rubongi Army SS, the briefing day started with organizing the venue and transporting numerous success cards from the academics office to the event location. A few speeches were delivered by the school administration and the chief invigilator, though the students appeared particularly interested in the success cards before them.
Finally, the awaited moment arrived. The first success card, from the school administration, was delivered by the Deputy Head Teacher (Academics), Mrs. Mbabazi Grace. Next, a success card from Tororo Municipality Mayoral Aspirant Ochieng Benard, also known as OBEN, was read aloud by the Chief Director of Studies, Mr. Mpagi Josephat. Additional success cards from RASS TV and St. Mark Church of Uganda – Rubongi were also presented before individual success cards were read out.
Speaking with one of the candidates, Odoi Gift Nicholas, also known as Gift Risa De Pipoz Choice—one of the youngest and most talented musicians in Tororo district—he expressed relief as the much-anticipated day draws nearer. He shared that many of them have long awaited this moment, eager to conclude this level and prepare for the next chapter in their lives.
